Introduction to Galvanized Steel Wire

Aug 17, 2026 Leave a message

Galvanized steel wire is produced by drawing high-quality carbon structural steels-such as grades 45#, 65#, and 70#-and subsequently applying a zinc coating (via either electro-galvanizing or hot-dip galvanizing).

It is a carbon steel wire with a zinc coating applied to its surface through hot-dip or electrolytic processes. Its performance characteristics are similar to those of straightened and tempered steel wire. While it can serve as unbonded prestressing tendon material, the zinc coating weight must be at least 200–300 g/m². It is commonly used for parallel-wire stay cables in cable-stayed bridges (often featuring additional external protection, such as flexible cable sheathing).

Galvanized steel wire is primarily used in agricultural greenhouses, livestock farms, cotton baling, and the manufacture of springs and wire ropes. It is also suitable for applications such as stay cables for cable-stayed bridges and structural components in harsh environments, including sewage treatment tanks.
